NC Cities, Town and Communities

The NC cities, towns and communities from the mountains across the piedmont to the coast are varied, each with their own personality. They offer many different opportunities and experiences to all. The various cities of this state have universities and educational institutes, big business and metropolises, government and legislature buildings, museums, theatres and cultural, historical significance, tourism and some offer the peace and quiet with beautiful scenery.

The capital city is Raleigh where the governor resides and where the governing of the state takes place. Each year the NC State fair is held in October and the NC state fairgrounds. The acorn drops each year to bring in a new year with a huge celebration taking place in downtown Raleigh. Raleigh is home to North Carolina State University. Raleigh offers numerous opportunities with museums, sporting events, shopping and events.

Charlotte is the largest city in the state. The city is a huge business center with high rise buildings defining the landscape.  The popular theme park Carowinds is located in Charlotte. The city is home to the Carolina Panthers National Football team and the Charlotte Hornets National Basketball team.

Asheville sits at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina. The rolling hills and beautiful scenery make the city a popular tourist destination. High in the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains the air is less humid offering a refreshing relief from those hot humid days in summer. Biltmore Estate is located in Asheville. Each year millions travel to the estate to tour the magnificent house and grounds.

Cherokee is located just to the south of the Great Smoky Mountains. The city is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park south entrance. The GSMNP is the most visited national park. Harrods Casino and Grad Resort is located in Cherokee. The city is rich in history and culture of the Cherokee Indians.

The Piedmont Triad area includes Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem. High Point ts referred to has the furniture capital of the world. The area offers shopping malls, golf courses, concerts and other events.

The triangle area include Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. This area is well the Research Triangle Park is located. Home to many important research, medical and other facilities. Also home to the well know universities UNC, NC State and Duke. Duke Medical Center is located in Durham and UNC Hospital is located in Chapel Hill. Both Duke and UNC have highly reputable medical schools.

Wilmington is located near the coast on the Cape Fear River. This city is the place where many TV movies, series and Hollywood movies are filmed. It is also home to UNC Wilmington. The USS North Carolina is a huge tourist attraction. Not far from Wilmington is the Crystal Coast, part of the Outer Banks.

Manteo, North Carolina is the gateway to the world-famous Outer Banks. The outdoor drama The Lost Colony plays each year during the summer months. It tells the story of the first English settlers attempt to settle the New World on Roanoke Island. The Outer Banks has many beautiful sites and places to enjoy. Jockys Ridge the largest natural sand dune offers a 360 degree view of the beaches, sound and ocean.

The cities of North Carolina offer so many things to all, culture, history, entertainment, educational opportunities, sports and enjoyment of the natural beauty of this state.
