wine and grape industry provides a huge economic impact to the state with over $1 billion generated over the last few years. Yadkin Valley in the northwestern area of the state has several wineries, but Johnston County in the southern coastal area of the state also has wineries and vineyards. Just take a look at the local grocery store’s wine aisle and see some local North Carolina names on the labels.
The Muscadine Heritage Wine Trail is a tour of four wineries where visitors can tour each muscadine winery and learn about the winemaking process. All four are family owned. Biltmore Estate has plans to add a second hotel on the grounds. The new hotel will be named The Village Hotel and will have 209 guest rooms. The site of the newest hotel for Biltmore will be in Antler Hill Village near the Winery. The Village Hotel will be four stories tall. In addition to the guest rooms, it will have a restaurant, a swimming pool, a fitness center and shuttle service. Construction begins this month and should be open next year in November.
Potters of the Piedmont is having a Pottery Festival on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The Pottery Festival will showcase over 50 potters from North Carolina, South Carolina and

Virginia. The Pottery Festival takes place from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm in downtown Greensboro’s historic South End District. Admission is Free.
Pottery on sale includes “a large selection of handmade, functional, decorative, and sculptural pottery”. The Pottery Festival is to showcase local potters from North Carolina, as well as South Carolina and Virginia. Come spend the day in Greensboro and shop for some unique pieces of pottery.
Second Chance Pet Adoption in Raleigh is having their 3rd annual Furry 5K Run and 2K Walk on Saturday October 11, 2014 at the Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, NC. There will be several events: a timed 5K run for just runners; a timed 5K run for runners with dogs; and a 2K and 1K walk for people and dogs. This is an event for the whole family and your pet dog! Head out October 11 to the Wake Med Soccer Park and help this fundraiser so rescued dogs and cats can get the care they need to be healthy and find good homes.

The Wide Open Bluegrass event starts in downtown Raleigh on Sept. 30, 2014 and will last through October 4, 2014. Events will be at the Red Hat Amphitheater and the Raleigh Convention Center. Friday and Saturday will be the free street festival with four music stages and a dancing stage, a youth talent stage, and of course food with the North Carolina Whole Hog Barbecue State Championship taking place. Jamming sessions in the street, live bands on stage, good food, beer and dancing. Join in on the fun and if you play bring your fiddle and get in on the action!
