Forty years ago on August 9, 1974 then President Richard Nixon resigned as POTUS due to the Watergate scandal. The NC Museum of History has an exhibit Watergate: Political Scandal & the Presidency that covers the scandal timeline. The exhibit last through August 10, 2014. Admission is FREE.
This exhibit tells the story of the Watergate scandal using artifacts, photographs, and video clips.
Watergate started on June 17, 1972, with a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. Five men were arrested and Washington Post investigative reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward investigation revealed links between the burglars and Richard Nixon’s re-election campaign.
The exhibit is an interesting presentation to those familiar with Watergate and to the young that know little of the scandal and the links that North Carolina had to the scandal.
