Hazardous Road Conditions in NC Mountains and Coast

The weather is causing some hazardous road conditions in North Carolina at the mountains and also at the coast. The North Carolina mountains has had several inches of snow with reports of down trees and road closures. The heavy wet snow is sticking to the leaves on the trees and causing limbs to break and trees to fall. There are reports of road closures in the Great Smoky Mountains and on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The coast is also having weather related problems. A low pressure is rotating off the coast with heavy rain, high winds and waves. Some soundside flooding may occur on Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island. It is possible Highway 12 will have sand, standing water and overwash in areas.

Please be careful if traveling in these areas today and tonight. Use Travel NC web cams to see the snow in the mountains (it is snowing in Boone) and the rain and wind at the coast!
