Weather Alerts-Coldest Weather in NC in a Decade

Weather alerts for NC. The state of NC will see the coldest weather and lowest temperatures in the state in over 10 years. Across the state cold air will cause the temperature to be in the single digits with blustery winds all day Tuesday causing the wind chill to be -0 degrees and lower in some areas. Below freezing temperatures will cover most of the state until about midday Wednesday. But Wednesday night the overnight temperature will drop below freezing again before warmer temperatures return later in the week and for the weekend.

Remember to take measures that will help prevent problems such as:

check your vehicle’s antifreeze level
have jumper cables in the vehicle in case your battery dies
have appropriate coat, gloves and hat in vehicle in case you get stranded for a while
bring the pets inside
leave the inside water faucet on a slow drip (hot and cold)
open cabinet doors under the sink so the heat in the home can keep the pipes warm
unscrew outdoor water hoses from the spigot and wrap the spigot with a old rag and tape in place

NC Museum of Art-Porsche by Design Exhibit Extended

The NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC has extended the exhibit through Feb. 2, 2014 . The exhibit features the German-made Porsche, 22 Porsche are on display including: a 1938 Type 64 Berlin-Rom Racer; Steve McQueen’s 1958 Speedster; Ralph Lauren’s 1988 Type 959; a 1989 Panamericana concept car with a zip off roof (a one-of-a-kind Panamericana concept car on loan from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany); and Janis Joplin’s psychedelic look 1965 Type 356C Cabriolet. The exhibit Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed “marks the North Carolina Museum of Art’s first design exhibition, exploring the history and development of the Porsche lineage from the 1930s to the present day” as stated on the NC Museum of Art website. The museum has scheduled a “hoods-up” weekend for the public. The four-day event will be Jan. 24-27, 2014. Visitors will be able to look under the hoods of some of the Porches in the exhibit.

Relics of Blackbeard’s Ship Queen Anne’s Revenge on View at Tryon Palace

Artifacts from Blackbeard’s ship the Queen Anne’s Revenge are on display at Tryon Palace in New Bern until February 15, 2014. Relics on displayed include cannon balls, nautical tools, and a wine bottle. The exhibit shows what life was like on the ship. The shipwreak was discovered by divers in 1996. Queen Anne’s Revenge ran aground in 1718 in the Beaufort Inlet. The NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort loaned the artifacts out to Tryon Palace.

Chimney Rock Closing for Planned Road Repairs

Chimney Rock is closing for about 30 days so road repairs can be done. The Chimney Rock State Park closing will take place before the end of this month. Heavy rains last spring resulted in the entrance road being damaged. Planned work includes a new retaining wall to protect the road in the future. Chimney Rock State Park about 25 miles south of Asheville. The almost 6000 acre park has hiking trails, waterfalls and beautiful views. Chimney Rock is a 315-foot rock formation that is a granite monolith that can be accessed. The view from Chimney Rock is breathtaking.

Raleigh Winterfest till 2/1/2014

This cold weather is perfect for enjoying Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest and the outdoor skating rink with natural ice. The ice rink is open until February 1, 2014.

Carolina Panthers Playoff Tickets Sell Out Within Minutes

Tickets to the Carolina Panthers playoff game next week sold out within just minutes. The game is January 12, 2014 at 1:05 in Charlotte at the Bank of America Stadium. Who they play has yet to be decided but having the home advantage is huge for the Panthers. With the Panthers powerful defense and Cam Newton leading the offense the playoff game should be a good one. Go Panthers!
