An estimated 80,000 people crowded downtown Raleigh last night to bring in the New Year at Raleigh First Night and watch the acorn drop at midnight. There was fun for all during Raleigh First Night with all the music, dancing, food and performances. Children got to watch the 7:00 pm acorn drop then the big finally at midnight for the adult was a lot of fun for all. North Carolina welcomes 2014!
The Duke Blue Devils lose to Texas A&M in the closing minutes of the Chick-fil-a Bowl Game last night. The final score was 52-48. Duke was ahead until the closing minutes of the high scoring and exciting bowl game. It was a disappointing lose for the team in their first bowl appearance in several years after a winning season. Still proud of the Blue Devils.
The Carolina Panthers beat the Atlanta Falcons 21-20 and earn a 1st round buy and home team advantage in the NFL playoffs. The Carolina Panthers get next weekend off while other teams battle out for the playoffs. The Panthers defense got 9 nine QB sacks in today’s game. Who the Panthers play against in 2 weeks has yet to be decided but the game will take place in Charlotte. So proud of the Carolina Panthers!
Events are at different downtown venues all evening, including performances by Big Sam’s Funky Nation, the Gawler Sisters and Chuck Davis and the African American Dance Ensemble. The event ends at midnight with the annual acorn drop to bring in the New Year!
