A spokeswoman for Cataloochee Ski Area reports they plan to open Thursday Nov. 14, 2013. Snow-making machines were making snow Wednesday at Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley, NC. Brown said six slopes would be open from mid-station down with two chair lifts and one conveyor lift.

Battleship North Carolina Gets Donation for Repairs
The Battleship North Carolina was bought by the state and dedicated in 1962 as a memorial to the >10,000 North Carolina men and women who served and died during World War II. Duke Energy Foundation has donated $1 million toward the repair of the hull of the battleship. The donation is part of the effort to repair the ship and expand the complex in Wilmington.
