The Elizabeth II- 30 Years of History Exhibit

The  Elizabeth II Exhibit-30 Years of History tells the story of the construction of the Elizabeth II- from framing to launching included in the exhibit are photos of the building of the ship, blueprints of the Elizabeth II and various artifacts pertaining to the ship. The film By Our Hands will be showing which tells the story of the building of  the ship and offers interviews with the shipbuilders. Letters and drawings that children have written  after visiting the ship are also on display. Admission is free. Open daily 9-5 at the Outer Banks History Center Gallery at Festival Park in Manteo on Roanoke Island at the NC Outer Banks. The exhibit runs now through December 31, 2013. Dean Smith Honored With Presidential Medal of Freedom

Retired UNC Tar Heels basketball Coach Dean Smith was awarded the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor, along with 16 other recipients this week by the President. Smith was unable to make the trip to Washington, DC due to poor health so his wife Dr. Linnea Smith accepted the award for him. Dean Smith coached the Tar Heels for 36 seasons and had 879 wins, 2 national championships, was in 11 Final Fours, and won the ACC tournament title 13 times during his UNC coaching career.  Roy Williams the current UNC basketball coach and Bill Guthridge, a longtime assistant coach were there to see the award presented to Smith.

Carolina Panthers Beat the Patriots!

The Carolina Panthers have just beat the New England Patriots 24-20. What a huge win! The Panthers have won their last 6 games. It was a great game on Monday Night Football on ESPN. Way to go Panthers. What a season this is turning into. The crowd at the Charlotte stadium is going crazy!

Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon 2013

The 8th Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon and Southern Fried Half Marathon last weekend was a big success with over 6500 participants in the events. The 26.2 mile marathon course was completed by 1,112 runners with the winner being Blair Teal for the men and Dalena Custer for the women. Participates came from 48 states and 8 countries to participate. The event is a fund raiser for the Dare Education Foundation and the Outer Banks Relief Foundation and is put on each year by Outer Banks Sporting Events. Here is a video from last years marathon.
