New Trails Open Blue Ridge Parkway Hiking

Blue Ridge Parkway hiking news-The Blue Ridge Parkway now has three new trails for hiking that just opened. All three are easy to hike and great for family outings.
The trails are located on the parkway between Linville and the Virginia state line portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

  • Rose Creek Trail-a 1.3 mile loop (part of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail)
  • Little Table Rock is a 2.1 mile moderate hike (on Pisgah Game Lands and it leads to the peak of Little Table Rock Mountain)
  • Saddle Mountain Trail is a 2 mile moderate hike (between U.S. 21 and the Virginia border)

Here are the NC college football games scheduled for this weekend:

  • UNC vs. Boston College in Chapel Hill, N.C.
  • NC State vs.  at Florida State in Florida
  • Duke vs. Virginia Tech Hokies at Virginia Tech
  • Wake Forest vs. Miami in Florida
  • Appalachian State  vs. Georgia Southern

ECU has an open date this weekend.

The NC Fall Foliage 2013 Update for this weekend and next wee-where to go to see the best color:

  • The NC fall foliage 2013 color show is past peak for the elevations over 4,000 feet (such as Mt. Mitchell).
  • The best place to see color for this weekend and next week will be at the 3,500 foot range  (Grandfather Mountain and Chimney Rock State Park)
  • The Asheville and Biltmore area should still be pretty this week.
  • Southern mountains near Franklin and Sylva at the highest elevations have color and is spreading down to the lower elevations this coming week.
